Project Homeless Connect is an innovative nationwide movement aimed at engaging communities to find solutions for the homeless. Now, local government and nonprofit agencies are partnering with service providers, businesses, citizens and faith communities to take the first step toward measurably reducing homelessness in Central Alabama by implementing Birmingham 's 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness.
For one day, in one location, Project Homeless Connect will give people experiencing homelessness the opportunity to access an array of services in a system that is often difficult to understand and navigate . Direct access to services is offered on site, including access to services for housing, medical needs, employment, veterans, pet care, haircuts, bicycle and wheelchair repair, and much more.
More than anything else Project Homeless Connect is about civic engagement and making our community a better place for everyone. Volunteer driven, Project Homeless Connect creates human connections between the homeless and other sectors of society.
The first ever Project Homeless Connect in Birmingham will be held on April 5th, 2008 at the Boutwell Auditorium. Volunteer to support Birmingham's solution to homelessness by registering at www.handsonbirmingham.org and checking under Special Events or by calling 205.251.5849. |
