Dante with Scott McGinnis, Oct. 19

Wednesday Sessions: October 5, 12, & 19

"Midway in our life's journey, I went astray from the straight road and woke to find myself alone in a dark wood. How shall I say what wood that was! I never saw so drear, so rank, so arduous a wilderness! Its very memory gives a shape to fear."
--Divine Comedy, Canto 1, lines 1-6

The story of Dante's epic journey begins with what today we might call a mid-life crisis. For Dante, life has lost its meaning, nothing matters either for good or ill, and apathy threatens to engulf the poet. However, a journey through hell, purgatory, and finally to heaven restores Dante's spirit and his faith. Join us to learn more about the way medieval Christians thought about life, faith, and the Christian journey.

About 30 minutes of reading ahead of time will improve your enjoyment of the sessions, but don't let the homework keep you away. All are welcome, regardless of preparation, and all can benefit.
